Pinjarra is also home to the infamous Battle of Pinjarra or Pinjarra Massacre where over 21 Aboriginal Noongars were killed by a detachment of 25 soldiers and policemen led by Governor James Stirling in 1834. The name 'battle' is disputed by some who argue that the event was part of an invasion of Aboriginal lands and that the name 'battle' disguises the true nature of the conflict, which was more of a 'massacre' in which wounded Aboriginal combatants were killed together with women and children.
Visit the sacred site and take a self guided audio tour by printing a copy of the map and downloading the audio mp3 files directly onto your iPod or iPhone or other portable mp3 playing device.
